Do you remember your life before you had a computer in it? It seems like forever ago, but in reality it was not that long ago when we did not have a pc in our home. In fact, much of the population can still remember a time in their lives before they had a computer in the home. There are some that are too young and have never lived in a time with no computer while there are yet others who have lived the majority of their lives without a computer and will die that way.
There was a time, though hard to believe now, before any of us had a pc. The strange thing is back then we hoped for more free time and we got it because of the invention of the computer. Now, that very device can take even more of our time if we do not manage it properly.
As hard as it is to believe, there was a time when people got along without websites such as Ebay, Twitter, Facebook and even Google. For that matter, there was a time when people lived life with no computer or even a microwave in their home.
Do you remember sitting at the table using the typewriter to do your school report? Oh yeah, those were good times. That was when "delete" meant having a bottle of white out. In fact, now that I say that I wonder how the white out business has been going since the invention of the computer and the delete button on a computer?s keyboard.
Pcs are very much a part of our lives on a daily basis now. While they are designed to make our lives a lot easier and more productive, they can be the opposite if we let them.
The amount of time that we spend on a computer when we do not have to be tells a lot about our self control. While it may seem easy to turn off the computer, it is not necessarily that easy. Our PCs can be used to access and overwhelming amount of information that can help us to learn a lot. While this is not a bad thing on the surface, it can be a huge time consumer during times that we should be doing other things. If this happened to us, then we should reevaluate.
Pcs can make our life a lot easier and more productive if we keep them in check. They can be used to do research, write reports or notes, and even to stay connected and share with friends and family. The computer can be a huge paper saver if we do everything we can on a computer rather than on a piece of paper.
By making a few rules, you can learn to take control of your time again rather than the computer controlling you. One rule that I use is to place the computer and the things that I want or need to do on the computer in a prioritized list with all of the other things that I need to do. Another rule is to set a limit on how much free time I use the computer for.
With the onset of new technology that will expand the definition of pc, it is important that we get our control now. Learn to utilize the computer to save time, not eat it all up. Once you have the computer under your control and not you under its control, you will find it very helpful to giving you more time.
