A person called me up to tell me her computer was running very slowly. The first thing I asked her was if she had a virus scanner installed on her computer and if she had been using it.

I have actually talked to people who were protected against viruses and didnt know they were because they bought the computer all set up with a virus scanner. Believe me, if you have Window XP or Vista and you dont have an antivirus program running in the background, these operating systems will let you know about it!

In this womans case she was protected against viruses. Also, her virus program was the best one I know of and it protects her computer against malicious types of spyware as well. Spyware will also slow down computer speed.

My recommendation was for her to find out if her problem was registry corruption. I told her to get a free scan to see if, indeed that was the problem. She told me she already had done so and it turns out it was a registry cleaner I know to be an excellent one. She said there were over 800 incidents of corruption the scanner found. Then she said she didnt get the license to activate the cleaners cleaning function because she thought it cost too much.

Actually, I dont know the end of the story but I do know this: registry corruption causes more computer speed problems than anything else I have ever seen and I have been in the computer repair business a long time. I also know registry cleaners just arent that expensive.

It is very dangerous to your computers health if you let registry corruption build up indefinitely. Before long so much of the registry could become corrupt, the computer will need very serious repairs to get it operating correctly again.

Sure this is an outside chance that there is something else slowing down the computer other than registry corruption, but it is a small chance. Besides, why would you not get your registry cleaned out when you know it is terribly corrupt?

The bottom line is I told her what I thought was wrong with her computer and what I would do if I were her. From there, it is totally her decision to get the registry cleaned or ignore the situation. I as much as told her that and then I ended the conversation, in a civil manor, of course.

Still, I cant help thinking about the fact registry corruption tends to multiply itself. So, it is a great idea not to operate a computer while it has a very corrupt registry, because all of a sudden and without warning that computer could go down for the count!
